19 June 2014 Social and BBQ

A lively and enjoyable evening was had by all with nearly 50 people attending the Social and BBQ evening on 19 June 2014. An art quiz put together by Dave Worn tested the knowledge of the guests. Bottles of wine etc are to be awarded to the winners (to be announced at the next meeting).

5th July Demo Night

A huge thanks to Norman Rossiter who came all the way from Spalding, Lincolnshire to entertain the Kidderminster Art Society  and demonstrate Derwent’s Inktense Pencils and Blocks.

He gave us a fascinating insight into the different ways this medium can be used to create beautiful wildlife and landscape pictures.

Norman particularly likes using Inktense when out sketching as it does not smudge and once water is added, it becomes permanent.

The Blocks feel much like oil pastels and can be used on their sides to

make broad marks or on the edge for finer detail. This can be complimented with the Inktense pencils to give a wide range of marks. When water is added the colours become very vibrant and can be mixed together on the paper.  To see more of Norman’s work visit his website here

David Spurrier and Pam French were the runners up.

Everyone who attended the evening had an opportunity to vote for their 3 favourite paintings; but it was by no means an easy task to choose, as there was so much talent on show!

Work Night 17 April

Tonight the theme ‘A Social Event’ continued with members volunteering to sit for the rest of the class. It was probably the quietest work night I have ever attended, everyone was so intense, concentrating on the subject!

Special thanks to David, Colin and Ellie for sitting, hope you don’t ache too much tomorrow!

PS: If any members would like to send in their sketches from the evening to display here, please email to Karen  Thanks!

Work Night 10 April

Tonight’s work night at Trimpley Village Hall, based around this month’s theme of ‘A Social Event’ was well attended. A table was set-up with a bottle of champagne (full, I might add!) champagne flutes and streamers, for those who wanted to draw them. However, as is the usual format of the evening, some members already had their own ideas and had started drawings and paintings.

I decided to jot down a few possible ideas along the theme, which actually ended up a huge long list!

The main ingredients though, would be;

  • People (what ages?),
  • Celebrations, (wedding, birthday party etc)
  • Sporting Events (football, bowling, darts etc)
  • Venues (Hall, hotel, garden etc)

So just a few ideas to get you started! Why not come along to the work night next Thursday and join the fun.  Hope to see you there!

Appraisal Evening with Jim McIntyre (BWS)

coast-15

More beautiful and interesting paintings were brought to Trimpley Village Hall for the appraisal evening on Thursday 27th March .

Clare Spencer introduced Jim McIntyre our appraiser for the evening and provided us with a surprising synopsis of Jim’s life and work. He is no stranger to the society and as a ‘life coast-13member’ he has sat on the committee and provided great support for the society for many years. He provided a very thorough and insightful appraisal of each painting offering coast-12praise and constructive criticism to help the artist with their work.

The works of art submitted by members, as always, were of a high coast-11standard and a good range of subjects based on the theme for the month which was ‘Coast’ .

I have taken a few photos of some of the painting but would coast-9love to hear from other members with any contributions for this post or for other pages. We need more images of the coast-8societies activities and the art work produced by members so please send in your comments,. Thanks:  Kathi Burrell

Please send your thoughts, ideas and pictures to Kathi Burrell at kathi.burrell@yahoo.co.uk or to  Karen Hotchkiss  at karensstudio@hotmail.com
