6 July 2017 – Talk by Nick Ashby

We were treated to a wonderful talk by Nick Ashby on Thursday 6th July. It included a little bit of history about cartooning, caricatures and humour in art. He also told us his story about becoming a full-time artist and how he came of own the gallery in Bewdley by the river Severn.

Members are now going to spent the month having a go at creating artwork based on this month’s theme of ‘Humour in Art’.

Nick Ashby will be returning at the end of the month to see how we get on and to hold our appraisal evening on 27th July.  Looking forward to it!

1st June 2017 – ceramics

On 1st June local artisan Camille from ‘The Melting Pot’ in Bewdley came along with a selection of pots, plates and tiles for the members to decorate. After an absorbing 2 hours  a wide range of interesting pieces had been completed. Camille took them with her to get them fired and will bring them back towards the end of the month.

Can’t wait to see the finished results! Below are some photos of the glazed pots awaiting firing.

April Spring Trophy

What a fantastic exhibition of work entered for the Spring Trophy and judging by the results, it was a close run thing. There was one out-right winner and 5 runners-up with the same number of votes.

Here are the paintings, and Dave’s wire model!

16 March 2017 Zentangle Workshop

This evening Shelley Waring did a presentation about Zentangles. These are miniature pieces of unplanned, abstract, black and white art created on a 3.5-inch (89 mm) square paper tile.  The method is simple and based on drawing a few lines and then completing the sections in contrasting patterns.  Zentangles are not only  beautiful, they are fun and relaxing to create.

The Zentangle may remind you of the current ‘colouring-in’ craze sweeping the country at the moment. There are loads of books out there, mainly aimed the adults, which are full of designs both real and imaginary just for the relaxation and fun of colouring in.

Below, taking Zantangles to the extreme!

March 2017 Decorative Design

Our theme of the month is Decorative Design. We kicked off with an inspiring visit to Kidderminster Carpet Museum where staff gave us a guided tour of the museum. We were also treated to a look at the archives; not normally available to members of the public.

9th March – We held a design workshop at Trimpley Village Hall. Karen Hotchkiss and Jennie Morton brought in a selection of fabrics, as well as wallpaper designs by William Morris, for us to peruse. We then set about creating our own designs in a variety of media.
