On Thursday evening 5th April, Kidderminster Art Society welcomed local artist Graham Wilson to demonstrate painting cartoon-style illustrations. He was an absolute hoot, he should be on the stage! He not only showed us how he approaches his painting but regaled us with amusing anecdotes and jokes throughout the evening.”
Graham likes working in varying styles and paints landscapes, abstracts and cartoons. He has illustrated several books and has a range of greetings cards.
Wilson said, “I believe anyone can produce an attractive painting, the two things needed are enthusiasm and time, anyone with these will steadily improve.” He can be contacted via his web site https://grahamwilsonart.weebly.com
KAS was pleased to host Lee Vincent on 1 Feb 2018. Lee is based in Stourport, Worcestershire and regularly exhibits throughout the West Midlands. His artistic career began as a portrait artist outside London’s National Portrait Gallery. Inspired by a holiday in Tuscany, he developed his style and now specialises in fantasy art. Calling all members! We are kicking off 2018 with a talk by our own Kay Wood about her experience as an art student with the Open University. Usual place at Trimpley Village Hall at 7.15pm. Come along and support Kay and find out a little bit about what we are getting up to this year!
The Annual Exhibition got off to a fantastic start on 4 November. We had not even finished hanging the paintings and one was sold!
27 members’ works are on show with 50 pieces in total. It’s a eclectic collection of media and styles, well worth a visit! The exhibition will be at the library until Saturday 2nd December so do try to visit.
Artist John Hopkins returned to KAS to do a demonstration for us. He makes it look so easy! A speedy sketch of Lynmouth Habour in under 10 mins then a masterclass in watercolour painting ensued. Huge thank you John, we had a fab evening and learned some great tips, including a lovely sky, water and reflections and getting the buildings to reflect the sunshine.
To cap the evening off, John donated the picture to the society.
On Thursday 26 October KAS enjoyed a relaxed and informative evening with Paul Hatton. The theme of the month was night skies and members brought in a wide variety of art on the subject. It was fascinating to see the different approaches and ideas on the subject. Paul did a great job of appraising the work.
On Thursday evening 5th October 2017, our guest artist known as DJ came along to demonstrate painting night skies in oils. What a great demo it was too! Oil painting is often thought of as being a very slow process, but instead of linseed oil he used ‘Zest-it’, a kinder medium which is unlikely to cause any adverse reaction, especially asthmatics, and has the advantage of quick drying time.
DJ set about painting the night sky with an aurora, stars, snowy mountains and trees, quite an accomplishment in two hours! Many members commented afterwards that the demo has inspired them to revisit oil painting.
Thank you DJ for a lovely evening, we all hope you will come again soon!
