Two chances to draw from life with our models. 17th Jan will be the female form and 24th the male.
Update: Great turn-out for both events and some fantastic drawings done in charcoal, pencil, inks and pastels. Thanks to Rod for organising the evenings.
What a fun evening! Great buffet, skittles games and good company. Thanks to the committee putting it all together. Thanks to James Mc for the skittles and our compere extraordinaire.
Getting creative with scraper boards. Thanks Lesley and Dave for finding all the books, references, and materials, and Shelley for enlightening us with the results of some of her experiments.
The exhibition is up and we’ve already had quite a few people through! Many thanks to everyone for your artwork and huge thanks to the hanging team, without them it would not have happened. Shelley, Ed, Colin, Dave and Karen, also to Kevin and Justine for their input and tea!
This year we are featuring a special display to commemorate 100 years since the end of WW1. All members were given a small canvas to paint for the exhibition. They were then available to purchase by the public for £5 each and all proceeds given to the Poppy Appeal
In addition to the poppy display and the regular exhibition a number of members have been creating ‘art books’ this year. Here is sneak preview. They will be on view at our annual exhibition at Kidderminster Library from Saturday 3rd November.
John Instance was our guest artist yesterday evening, 1st November 2018. He treated us to a master class on painting snow, painting a well-known scene of Bewdley which will be available as a Christmas card this year. Thanks John for a very enjoyable evening.
Members spent a fascinating evening in the company of Steve Ridley on Thursday 4th October 2018. Steve gave us a brief insight into the artists of WW1 and their work. Far from the propaganda you would expect of government-funded art, many of the artists of the day used their art to show the horrors of war rather than glorify it. Definitely a subject worth looking at in more depth.
On thursday we welcomed ‘Glo Lo’ to demonstrate painting watercolours in bright and varied colours. In a short couple of hours she painted a vase of flowers in an explosion of colour and a touch of ink. Gloria often paints in a ‘Chinese ‘ Style but this evening she did a loose watercolour, lots of colour, water and a big mop brush.
You can see a short video on Gloria in action here.
On Thursday 30th August, members brought in a selection of their work from appraisal by artist and art teacher John Bodley. There was a wide variety of media, styles and subject matter for John to take a look at.
It turned into an entertaining evening with lots of input. John was very kind and thoughtful with his comments and the members benefitted from his knowledge and suggestions. Thanks for coming John!
On thursday 5th July we welcomed Angie Hughes, textile artist extraordinaire, to our meeting. Angie brought along some of her handmade art books and altered books to show us. She also did a couple of short demonstrations to show us how she creates some of her pieces. A was a fascinating and entertaining evening enjoyed by everyone. There really was ‘something for everyone’.
Following on from this visit, and from input from some of our members, we will be having a competition in October for members’ own art book creations!
