4 Oct 2018 – talk by Steve Ridley

Members spent a fascinating evening in the company of Steve Ridley on Thursday 4th  October 2018. Steve gave us a brief insight into the artists of WW1 and their work. Far from the propaganda you would expect of government-funded art, many of the artists of the day used their art to show the horrors of war rather than glorify it. Definitely a subject worth looking at in more depth.

2018 Gloria Loney demo

On thursday we welcomed ‘Glo Lo’ to demonstrate painting watercolours in bright and varied colours.  In a short couple of hours she painted a vase of flowers in an explosion of colour and a touch of ink. Gloria often paints in a ‘Chinese ‘ Style but this evening she did a loose watercolour, lots of colour, water and a big mop brush.

You can see a short video on Gloria in action here.

2018 August – Members art

On Thursday 30th August, members brought in a selection of their work from appraisal by artist and art teacher John Bodley. There was a wide variety of media, styles and subject matter for John to take a look at.

It turned into an entertaining evening with lots of input. John was very kind and thoughtful with his comments and the members benefitted from his knowledge and suggestions. Thanks for coming John!

5 July – Angie Hughes demo

On thursday 5th July we welcomed Angie Hughes, textile artist extraordinaire, to our meeting. Angie brought along some of her handmade art books and altered books to show us. She also did a couple of short demonstrations to show us how she creates some of her pieces. A was a fascinating and entertaining evening enjoyed by everyone. There really was ‘something for everyone’.

Following on from this visit, and from input from some of our members, we will be having a competition in October for members’ own art book creations!

5 APRIL 2018 – Demo by Graham Wilson

On Thursday evening 5th April, Kidderminster Art Society welcomed local artist Graham Wilson to demonstrate painting cartoon-style illustrations.  He was an absolute hoot, he should be on the stage! He not only showed us how he approaches his painting but regaled us with amusing anecdotes and jokes throughout the evening.”

Graham likes working in varying styles and paints landscapes, abstracts and cartoons. He has illustrated several books and has a range of greetings cards.

Wilson said, “I believe anyone can produce an attractive painting, the two things needed are enthusiasm and time, anyone with these will steadily improve.” He can be contacted via his web site https://grahamwilsonart.weebly.com
